For some children, heading back to school is an exciting and joyous occasion, but for others it can envoke scared, nervous, and anxious feelings. As a parent of two VERY different children, I can speak to the importance of understanding each individual child's needs.
While one child tends to "roll with the punches," our other child does not do well with change or separation. Summertime creates the perfect storm for said child. We get into a summer routine that is fun, and on top of that, the kids are home with me all day, every day. Now all of the sudden I'm telling my kid she has to leave me for 7 hours, five days a week! to sit in a classroom and learn? Cue the back-to-school blues!
A change in routine, coupled with separation anxiety could turn any happy home into a war zone, IF we let it. However, I'd like to offer suggestions from my own personal experiences in the hopes that it may save you and your children some tears. In fact, it may even allow you enjoy the process of *Back to School*
Always remember, every child is so very different. What works for my child may not work for yours, but it MAY! and I hope that it does.
Wishing you and your family a healthy and safe school year and lots of joy!
